A note from Bill :

Mantua was started in the 1920s by John Tyler and a partner. They made their first trains in the late 1930s. In the mid 1950s they created the name TYCO for their "ready-to-run" line. They used the  Mantua name for the kits.  TYCO stands for Tyler Company. In the late 1960s  they dropped the Mantua name and used TYCO for RTR and kits. They sold the company to Quaker Oats sometime in the late 60s or early 70s. In 1977 or so, Norman Tyler  (John's son) purchased the old dies back and started up Mantua again. Most of what Mantua or Tyco produced until the mid to late 60s was USA  production. After that it was imported.  The new Mantua line was made in the U.S. until the mid 80s. The steam locos were made in the U.S. until Mantua closed in 2001. Most of the rest was made in China.
